About the AcaBelles

Want to learn about how the AcaBelles were founded?

AcaBelles was founded in January 2000 by Ruthie Stant and Nancy Visceglie. The rest is....well, HISTORY!!

I might also include some information about my personal history: where I grew up, where I went to school, various places I've lived. If I have one, I'll include a picture of myself engaging in an activity I enjoy, such as a sport or hobby.

The AcaBelles' First Performance at Landis Coffeehouse

The AcaBelles were asked to perform at the coffee house after having been an established group for two weeks.  The group took off from there!

Ruthie and Nancy always saw each other between their classes at the Florida State University School of Music. One cool January afternoon, they sat and talked about going with their all time favorite co-ed a cappella group, All Night Yahtzee, to their competition at Georgia Tech. Then Nancy said (somewhat jokingly), "You know Ruthie, we should start a girl's group!" Ruthie replied in her sweet little country accent, "Oh my goodness, Nancy! I have been meaning to talk to you about that! I am serious! I want to start one! Let's do it!"

So the girls compiled a list of who they thought might be interested in a female a cappella group and made their dreams come true along with 11 other wonderful ladies.

Ruthie came up with the name AcaBelles because "We're in the south!" But in all honesty, she is our only true Southern Belle.

With not even two weeks of being an "Official Group", the AcaBelles were asked to perform at the Landis Hall Honors Coffee Shop. There we got our first public exposure and the girls really understood what they were beginning to get themselves into. We rehearsed three days a week, averaging about 6 hours per week. That hectic schedule continued throughout the Spring semester until we finally had our first AcaBelles concert. We had asked All Night Yahtzee to open for us and we gladly returned the favor for their concert a few days later.

AcaBelles is very proud to have some of the most talented women of Florida State singing in the group. We are linked not only through music, but friendship as well.
